Ride the Wind Surf Shop's New Site Launches

by Vicki Vasil

Ride the Wind, a surf shop up in the Outer Banks came to us because of our expertise in the action sports. Their goal was to put forth an engaging site that really felt like a “shopping experience” for their customer and to make their new site look like the source on Ocracoke Island– the core, local shop that it is, while also remaining friendly and family-oriented. They also wanted to streamline the reservation process for their rentals, surf camps, lessons and kayak tours and share their unique and authentic staff experiences through a blog.

Sage Island designed the new Ride the Wind website

With our design we aimed to encourage users to spend a lot of time on the homepage like they do while browsing the racks at the actual Ride the Wind shop. The variety of information on the page offers this retailer’s customer a different style of browsing experience: users may view the surf report via the twitter feed, a Facebook feed, the most recent blog blurbs and can also watch a highlighted video.

The site was built in WordPress which allowed for the homepage widgets, photo gallery live-time sync to Flickr and toggling schedules on the reservation pages. We protect the site’s capture of credit cards for reservations and direct online shoppers to their virtual store, and optimized the site to attract customers of both the brick and mortar and online storefronts. We encourage you to check out this fun new site!

It's more than a message in a bottle.
