Sage Team Paddles Out to the Lineup at Surf Expo
Last month, Sage Island attended and exhibited at Surf Expo, the world’s largest semi-annual boardsports and beach lifestyle trade show, held in Orlando, Florida. For the first time ever, the show hosted Internet Retailer for a custom eCommerce conference and exhibition targeted to Surf Expo exhibitors that also hosted a section of internet marketing services and solutions, and we were thrilled to be a part of it, both as a sponsor of the “IR Focus: Surf Expo” Pavilion and as an exhibitor.
Our team held court at our custom-designed booth in a great location! We split up to meet and greet current customers and potential new ones, and also attend the dynamic education sessions that featured top eCommerce marketers from across the industry. Sage Island CEO Mike Duncan moderated a panel on Day 2 of the series: Elevating the Customer Experience, where he spoke with eCommerce experts from Vertical Urge, Cros and Motorcycle Superstore. We also sat in on sessions with lead marketers from Life is Good, Swell.com and Perry Ellis International. It was great learning some of the game-changing marketing, social media and online sales strategies that transformed these businesses into the powerhouses they are today.
Sage Island has always specialized in action sports businesses. Working within the segment comes naturally to us: it’s a part of our background and omnipresent in the lifestyle of the North Carolina coast. We work with a number of brands, retailers and associations present at Surf Expo and it was great to see everyone under one roof. Some of our clients we saw were: The Surfboard Warehouse, Surf Industry Manufacturers Association, Smart City Tickets, Coastal Edge Surf Shop, Eastern Skateboard Supply, Modern Skate, Ambush Boarding Co., and Annex Surf Supply to name a few.
The event also provided a ton of networking opportunities. With over 250,000 square feet of exhibit space, walking the show gave our team a 360-degree view of the action sports and beach lifestyle industries. Each section of the show has its own vibe, look and feel, from the exponentially-growing Stand Up Paddle industry to the Skate area surrounding a huge street skate park, to high-end resort wear and the edgy Lifestyle Collective area. After-hours events like the TransWorld Business fashion show and an exclusive party at Typhoon Lagoon, complete with a surf contest held in the wave pool rounded out the evenings for the group.
While we’ve attended the event before to meet with clients, this is the first time we showcased our services and set up shop as an exhibitor. And it was such a successful event, it’s something we’re likely to do again. Did you miss us at Surf Expo?
