Saturday Funday: 5k Run + Beer and Wine Fest

by Lanette Gardiner

This Saturday, October 18th, is going to be a fun one with the 16th Annual Son Run 5k in Wrightsville Beach and the Lighthouse Beer and Wine Festival in Battleship Park, both taking place on the same day! Join Sage Island for a day of outdoor fun at two events benefiting The Carousel Center, a non-profit organization protecting abused children.

Kick-off the day on a healthy foot at the annual Son Run 5k. The Son Run is a 3.1 mile run or walk that begins at Wrightsville Beach Park and continues along “The Loop” course, around Wrightsville Beach. This scenic, oceanfront route is great for participants of all ages, plus over $1,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to the race’s top finishers. As if that wasn’t enough, fresh pies from Apple Annie’s Bake Shop will be awarded as well! The Son Run 5k starts at 8:00 a.m. for the Kids’ Fun Run, with the Adult Run beginning shortly after at 8:30 a.m.

Cool off after the race with unlimited samples of ice-cold micro-brews or refreshing wines at the Lighthouse Beer and Wine Festival. For 13 years, Lighthouse has hosted this amazing day of beer, wine, food and fun, and this year they’re moving it to Battleship Park in downtown Wilmington. The festival kicks off at 1:00 p.m., leaving you plenty of time to head home and shower after the Son Run 5k. If you’re more of an “early bird,” a limited number of VIP tickets are also available with a 12-noon entry time as well as additional VIP benefits. This event is selling out faster each year, so be sure to grab your tickets today and avoid the long lines on Saturday.

The Sage Island crew couldn’t be more excited for a day of outdoor fun in sun, supporting such a wonderful cause. We look forward to seeing you for what’s going to be a Saturday funday, to remember!

It's more than a message in a bottle.
